This
illustrates the effect of alendronate 40 mg/day on serum alkaline
phosphatase in two randomized double-blind clinical trials. Alendronate
was more effective than etidronate in reducing enzyme activity in
these studies of patients whose baseline alkaline phosphatase activity
was at least two times the upper limit of normal. In 32 patients followed
for 1 year after treatment, enzyme activity remained suppressed in
29/32 patients. |
