Fractures
are a common complication of Paget's disease. The pagetic fracture
is classically transverse and has minimal comminution. It resembles
the snapping of a carrot or chalk stick, as seen in this pathologic
fracture of the femur in a patient with Paget's disease. This type
of transverse break is usually not seen with normal bone. Some experts
believe that fissure fractures (Slide 23) predispose to this type
of configuration. |
